Using Renewable Energy – Highly Energy Efficient Homes

We expect that most homeowners recognize the importance of operating their homes in an energy efficient manner. By extension many people would also consider the environmental impact and carbon footprint of their planned new home as an important design criteria.

Quantum Energy Solutions encourages our clients and all prospective homeowners to research the renewable energy options available to them and to develop an increased awareness of the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels. Simply stated, we advocate for the use of geothermal and solar energy systems. Many of our clients are making a conscious decision to reduce their carbon footprint by building their new homes with an energy efficiency design that incorporates renewable energy and limits or eliminates the use of natural gas.

Constructing a high quality building envelope, selecting appropriate windows and using adequate amounts of insulation to reduce the loss of heat through the structure are important requirements. Coupled with the use of renewable energy systems we can create a highly energy efficient structure with lower heating and cooling demands. This helps reduce the initial installation cost of the custom designed heating and cooling systems and brings long term benefits from lower operating and maintenance costs. Carbon reduction is another of the benefits. The carbon footprint of a geothermally heated home stands in sharp contrast to the fuel emmisions exhausted from a conventionally heated home.

Energy collection and power generation by a solar PV (photo voltaic) system and the installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system can often be incorporated into the overall energy design. A properly designed and installed geothermal heating system can bring significant improvements to the operating efficiency and air quality of any new custom home. As is true with many other aspects of the overall construction project, each heating and cooling system should be evaluated on it’s own merits and a thoughtful design and cost competitive solution offered to each prospective new project.
